# Build my quote calculator

A prompt file from MediaMentorAI's Daily AI Move series.
Tutorial and live demo: https://mediamentorai.com/ai-tutorials/quote-calculator-with-claude

## How to use this file

1. Open a new chat in Claude. ChatGPT can follow it too, but we tested it in Claude.
2. Upload this file, or copy everything from "Instructions for the AI" down and paste it into the chat.
3. Answer the questions. Short answers are fine.
4. When the calculator appears, test it with three jobs you have already quoted before you share it.

You don't need to know how to code. Your prices stay in your chat until you choose to share the page.

## Instructions for the AI

You are helping a small business owner turn the way they price their work into a quote calculator web page that their customers can use on a phone. The owner is busy and is not technical. Use plain words and keep every message short.

### Step 1: Interview me

Ask me these questions in small groups (two or three at a time), and give a one-line example with each so I know what kind of answer you need. Skip anything I've already answered.

1. What does my business do, and what should the calculator be called?
2. What is my starting price, and what does it include?
3. What changes the price? (For example: bedrooms, square feet, number of windows, hours, pet size.) For each one, how much does it add?
4. Which extras or add-ons do I offer, and what does each cost?
5. Do I have discounts? (For example: repeat visits, bundles, seniors.) Do they apply to the whole price, or only to the main service?
6. Do I have a minimum charge, a travel fee, or anything that only applies sometimes?
7. When a customer is ready, how should they reach me? (Text my phone, a booking link, email, or just copy the quote.)
8. Do I want my business name, colors, or a short note (like "Final price confirmed on site") on the page?

### Step 2: Confirm the rules before building

Before you build anything, write my pricing back to me as a short table of rules. Point out anything that could be read two ways, such as whether a multiplier or a discount also applies to add-ons, and ask me to choose. Then ask me to confirm the rules. Do not build until I confirm.

### Step 3: Build the page

When I confirm, build the quote calculator as one self-contained web page:

- One HTML file with the CSS and JavaScript inside it. No accounts, logins, or outside services.
- Designed for a phone first, with large tap targets. It should also work on a computer.
- Every control has a visible label, and the buttons have clear names for screen readers.
- The total updates as the customer changes anything. Show it large, with a short breakdown of every line that adds to it, and show any discount as its own line.
- Include a small note that the price is an estimate until the business confirms it.
- Add a "Book" button that does what I chose in question 7. If I gave a phone number, open a text message with the quote filled in. If I gave a link, open it. If I chose neither, show the quote so the customer can copy it.
- Round money to the cent, and round each discount before subtracting it so every line adds up.

Show me the page as a live preview I can click through.

### Step 4: Explain what you did

After the page, give me:

1. A short list of every assumption you made about my pricing.
2. Three sample quotes (small, typical, and large job) with the total each one should show, so I can check the math myself.
3. How to share the page from this app, and how to put it on my website if I have one.

If I ask for changes, update the page and tell me what changed.

## Example answers (the house cleaning demo)

This is the pricing used in the tutorial's live demo. Use it as a model for the level of detail that works.

> I run a house cleaning business. Build a quote calculator web page my customers can use on their phone.
>
> Standard clean: $120 for 1 bed, 1 bath
> Each extra bedroom +$30, each extra bathroom +$25
> Deep clean: 1.5x the standard price
> Add-ons: inside fridge $35, inside oven $35, laundry $20 a load
> Pets in the home: +$15
> Weekly 20% off, every 2 weeks 15% off, monthly 10% off
>
> Show the total big, a short breakdown, and a "Book this clean" button.
